Criticism |
This
course is a critical analysis of the rhetorical dimensions of various
media, including television news, the Internet, advertising and politics.
Through the use of case studies, the latest statistics and discussion
of recent media events, the course examines how news, advertising and
political uses of the mass media shape perceptions of reality. (Prerequisite:
junior standing the the major and consent of instructor) |
| Digital
Imaging COM 340 (4 cr.) |
An
in-depth study of digital still photography and the capabilities of computers
to manage, enhance and manipulate images. using Adobe Photoshop,
the student will study and perform techniques previously possible only
in the darkroom, plus explore capabilities only available using computers.
Besides covering basic and advanced techniques, the course is intended
to expand student understanding of digital imaging as a means of visual
communication. |

Internship COM 395 (4- 12 cr.) |
Internships
are designed to give students practical experience in the field of their
choice by placing them in a professional setting. Students are required
to do two internships at separate locations. A minimum total of 100 hours
of work is required for four credit hours. (The communication internship
will be evaluated with a letter grade, rather than being graded on a pass
/ fail basis.) |
| Practicum |
Offers authentic production experience and leadership training in one or more of the campus media – radio, video, newspaper, yearbook, and web design. Required of all mass communications majors. |
